Suspension, revocation and extension of a certificate
What is the validity of the certificate and when can the ISO certificate be suspended?
We answer basic questions about the validity of the certification, how to withdraw the certificate or how to narrow it.
Can the issued certificate be suspended?
Suspension of certificate validity
The certification body may, by official letter, suspend the validity of the certificate for a certain period of time for the following reasons.
- the client's certified management system fails permanently or seriously to meet the requirements of the certification, including the requirements for the effectiveness of the management system (based on audit findings or substantiated complaints, third party complaints),
- the certified client fails to allow surveillance or recertification audits to take place at the required intervals,
- the certified client itself requests the suspension
- the certified client has demonstrably failed to rectify the non-conformities identified by the audit within the specified timeframe
- a certified client deliberately conceals a complaint about its management system
- the certified client fails to notify the ELBACERT® certification body of specific or announced changes in the company that are relevant to the certification
In the official letter, the certification body shall state the reason for the suspension of the certificate and shall also specify the conditions to be fulfilled for the renewal of the certificate. During this time, the audit client may not use the certificate and any advertising materials that mention the certification. ELBACERT will publish this on its website.
If the conditions necessary for the renewal of the certificate have been fulfilled within the specified period of time, ELBACERT will renew the validity of the certificate by an official letter. This fact is published on the ELBACERT website. Otherwise, i.e. if the reasons for the suspension of the certificate have not been removed within the time specified by the certification body, ELBACERT will withdraw (invalidate) or reduce the scope of the certificate.
When can the certificate be withdrawn?
Certificate revocation (invalidation)
The ELBACERT® certification body withdraws the certificate by an official letter, respectively. declare it null and void if:
- the certificate or certification mark has been misused,
- the property of the client is declared bankrupt or the bankruptcy proceedings are discontinued due to lack of assets,
- by law or by a court decision, certification or maintenance of the certificate is prohibited,
- if the Parties so agree,
- if the reasons for the suspension of the certificate have not been removed within the time specified by the certification body.
The letter of withdrawal shall state the reason for the withdrawal together with an indication of the legal consequences of the withdrawal. Upon withdrawal of the certificate, the certified entity is obliged to return the ELBACERT® certificate, to cease using the ELBACERT® logo and all advertising means referring to the certification. ELBACERT® will publish this fact on its website.
When can the certificate be extended?
Extension of the scope of the certification granted
You can request the ELBACERT® Certification Body to extend your certificate by reviewing the application for extension of the scope of certification. It may be carried out in conjunction with a surveillance audit or a stand-alone audit.
